Malaita Province

john

Malaita is a culturally rich island north of Guadalcanal. The island has a large bush population as well as artificial islands built by inhabitants if the west coast around Langa Langa Lagoon.

The people of Malaita maintain strong customs, especially the Kwaio people of the interior. Shark worship is still practiced on the west coast. Malaita has both fresh and saltwater crocodiles.

A large number of artificial islands have been built at Langa Langa and Lau lagoons. The largest are 1 sq km in area. Drinking water on the artificial islands comes from rain, or is carried from the mainland.

The capital of Malaita is Auki. The town is considered one of the most scenic towns in the Solomons.
