Vangunu Island, Solomon Islands
Western Province
Vangunu is a circular island with an indented coastline. The island has an area of 520 sq km, with a summit elevation of 1123m (Mt Vangunu). The island forms the SW edge of Marovo Lagoon.
The island had a population of 2212 at last census in 1999.
On the SE and NW there are mangroves. The island is composed of a single, highly dissected volcanic cone with a large crater overlooking the south coast.
